Students will gain knowledge by going to websites and looking up information about their assigned explorer. The will take notes in a simple Word document until they organize information into their wiki's. They have specific things that they are looking for such as a map image of journeys taken by the explorer, what country they came from, the years of exploration, etc. After data collection and organization students will analyze how the explorer changed the world that they were living in.
Students will organize their information into a group wiki page. They have specific items they need to find, such things include a picture of their explorer, their age when they started exploring, country of origin, map of journeys, etc. Some of the things they have options of finding a picture to represent information or writing the answer, while some require both and others need to be strictly written.
Students will learn about the other explorers through their classmates wiki pages. As groups they will look at the other pages and discuss what they learn about the explorers. They will then post a discussion individually about each explorer to show what they have learned.
Preparation
Set up class wiki page with seperate pages for each explorer
Find reliable websites for students to go to for collecting information
Find a good way to introduce the topic of exploration; I chose to show a short video
